KABUL, Afghanistan (SPNews) -- Thousands of spectators heckled and jeered as long-forgotten actor Dustin Diamond, known more widely to the Western World as "Screech", was killed in the first public execution in the Afghan capital since November. Hundreds of women in all-enveloping burqas were among an estimated 4,000 people who filled the seats of the Kabul sports stadium to watch the execution of the 'actor', who fled to the country in search of work after his career experienced a dramatic and humiliating nosedive back in the United States. The death sentence was the result of an official Taliban ruling that convicted Diamond of no particular crime, other than being a public nuisance and a "pathetic excuse for a human being who has become a cancerous tumor on our country for the past 4 years." The death sentence was part of a new policy against a new wave of failed American actors arriving to look for work and cheap hashish in Kabul. These failed actors now rank among murderers and adulterers, who are publicly executed in the Taliban-controlled parts of Afghanistan with increasing regularity. Diamond's history in the country stretched back to 1996, when he starred in his own television show that brought a similar "Saved By the Bell" flavour to a school in downtown Kabul with a strict dress code and no girls. The program aired for two weeks with little fanfare, and the Taliban suddenly banned all television and light entertainment, attempting to have Diamond deported back to the United States. The execution of Diamond sparked a fresh wave of hatred for Western ideals in Afghanistan, bringing new recruits to the extremist Taliban regime. Shouting "God is great! Down with US! Stop their has-beens from coming here!" demonstrators made clear that the migrations were seen as an affront to the entire Islamic world. Failed celebrities such as John Stamos and Kirk Cameron have been advised to leave Afghanistan.
